Snakewood in sizes big enough to build guitars is so rare that I doubt you will get anyone to give you much of a handle on its tonal properties. (I have only ever seen 2 other sets besides the one Brad has listed in the wood shed)

It is beautiful stuff though.

Hesh,
Serge Dejonge has built several snakewood (back and sides) guitars.
I know saw one on his website in the past.

I sold some snakewood fretboards to Patriot guitars-I think he has pictures on his website.

Heh,
As far as the tonal characteristics,I think it is going to be very simmilar to the other extremely dense hardwoods like ebony, cocbolo, certain rosewoods, etc.

It sounds alot like Pink Ivorywood...

Actually..that is another wood besides Snakewood I have used for binding and rosettes but almost never seen large enough to build with...

I had the good fortune to have my booth next to the DeJonges last summer at Healdsburg and got to play one of their snakewood guitars. Beautifully made, french polished, and great tone. I'm always hesitant to describe tone characteristics as they are so subjective, but to my ear I'd put it closer to Macassar Ebony than anything else.

Ron welcome to the OLF forfum. I am impressed with your non-traditional work. The all spruce looks great. I am particularly intriqued by the snakewood-ebony bracing. Just wondering what effect that has on tone.
